24/08 - 27/08 = week 34

Let’s now look at my first week in Helsinki! I arrived at 15.15 o’clock at the Helsinki Airport with my

Finnish Airlines’ flight. I met Hannele (foster mother), and she drove me to the house I will be staying my whole Erasmus. I discovered the neighbourhood, the house, and my room. Later that day, I met Pekka (foster father). In the evening, we walked 5 minutes to the Laajasalo bridge close to Santahamina (military base) to see the sunset, and take some pictures you can find back on my blog (first picture) or on Instagram or Facebook.

The next day, I planned to visit my university, but before that, I had to discover the whole transportation system in Helsinki which wasn’t that easy at first. Luckily, Hannele helped me a lot, and showed me the basics about it. I went to the Aalto Business University in the Otaniemi campus to walk around, and visited a nature park called Laajalahden. The afternoon was dedicated to visit the city of Helsinki. I discovered the Esplanadi park, the Lutheran cathedral, the Senate square, the Finnish House of Nobility, the Ouspenski Cathedral, the Kauppatori Market square, and the Harbor. Saturday, I realised that I visited the wrong university, and that mine was a bit further. That’s why I went back to the Laurea University of Applied science in another Otaniemi Campus in Espoo (just next to Helsinki). I rested the last day of that week. In the afternoon, I went to discover the Laajasalo surroundings. We ate a very delicious Finnish typical meal in the evening: barbecue-grilled salmon with tomatoes.
