Week 43 (23 – 29/10)
Hi dear readers! New week, new blogpost, as you are used to it by now. This week has been very different for me. My post is a few days later than usual, but I can explain why. Let’s jump into this crazy week together! Monday 23 October was a normal day at Otaniemi Campus. We had to present our case 2 to Minni Ruhtinas, the development manager at Telia that you know. It was a very interesting case about the Telia app and MGM (member-get-member). Our group did a very good analysis on the app, but unfortunately, we didn’t understand the MGM part like we should have. Nevertheless, our presentation was globally a good one with very interesting points for Telia. After all presentations of the 8 groups, we got the introduction of case 3. The final case is in relation with Liiga, the icehockey matches. We could choose between 3 different tasks. Our group chose to focus on the products and services Liiga could offer in partnership with Telia. To conclude that day, Anna Nolvi told us about the final report we must hand in on Thursday 2 November.
That’s why on Tuesday, I started preparing all the tasks I had to do for the next week. I also had a halftime meeting with our Laurea Erasmus coordinators. We did a funny quiz together about Finnish culture that I won J Let’s move on to the big news for you guys! On Wednesday, I left to go to Saint Petersburg in Russia! I had Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning to prepare this amazing trip with TimeTravels.
On 25 October, I met my Erasmus friends that were going with me in Russia on the Helsinki West Terminal (Länsisatama). Our ferry left at 19 pm. We attended an amazing folk and variety show in the Columbus bar on the boat. And after that we spend the whole night dancing in the nightclub.
We arrived at 9 am in St Petersburg, but we could only leave the ferry at 14.00 because of the 72 hours visa free limit Russia allows. We started with a guided city tour in the afternoon. We saw some famous city sights like: Peter & Paul fortress, The Spit of the St Basil Island & Nevsky prospect. After that we went to the hotel to get ready for the Russian dinner party! It was a traditional Russian evening with different shows, and a delicious dinner. Afterwards, we went clubbing in the city.
Meanwhile in Helsinki, my fellow classmates had a lesson on Thursday at Otaniemi.
I unfortunately couldn't participate to the lecture because I was in Russia. Anna told us about the very interesting lectures especially the one about pitching. I was sad I couldn’t attend those lectures because this is a subject I love. The first lecturer was Petri Lattu from the company Nordkapp. He had a nice introduction about IA (Artificial Intelligence). My friends told me it was interesting. He explained how those evolution robots could bring a lot of potential in our future society but also how much people feared those new intelligences. Here is an article that shows different scientists opinion. They are speaking about the potential of AI and how they predicted it would evolve already nowadays. This article proved me how current those AI already are in our society.

The other speaker was Anna Grinberg from the Work & life Ry. Company. Her speech about pitching and introducing yourself was, as I heard, amazing. She gave a lot of tips, and very useful ones! Her company trains people to public speaking skills, networking skills, and intercultural skills. The subjects she addressed were: presentation content, introducing yourself, supporting material & key words. I would have loved attending this lecture, because I enjoy presenting subjects myself. It would have helped me a lot!
Back to Russia! On Friday, we had a guided bus excursion to Pushkin, the Catherine's Palace in "Village of the Tsars". We also had some free time in Catherine’s park where I took a lot of pictures with my friend Fedra. The afternoon was dedicated to some rest, some shopping and free time in the city. Of course, as expected, we had a party in the nightclub MOD.
28 October, guided tour of the State Hermitage Museum. That museum is just wonderful! But unfortunately, enormous. If you spend 5 minutes in front of every art monument without breaks, you need more than 8 years to see it all! That’s why we followed our guide almost running to see as much as possible in 2h30. In the afternoon, we did a cathedral tour of St Petersburg. We saw the most beautiful cathedrals of St. Petersburg: Nikol’skyj Cathedral, St Isaac’s Cathedral and the Cathedral on the Spilled Blood. At 21:00 we left for an amazing night cruise on the rivers and canals of the city. After that we went in the city center again for some clubbing in ROSSI’s nightclub. It was the last party in Russia and it was Halloween night!
To conclude this trip shortly, we left on Sunday to take the ferry back to Helsinki. There was again the typical Russian show with an after party on the boat. I really enjoyed this amazing trip in Russia. It took me some time to realize I was there, even though I loved every second of this trip!
I’m sorry for this late post. I hope you understand the reasons and still enjoyed reading it. I will be on time the next weeks, you can rely on my words!
